Critical Control and Reliable Electronic Systems

Larry Yount joined LaunchPoint Technologies in August 2009 as the Chief Technical Officer for Critical Control and Reliable Electronic Systems. Larry brings over 35 years of experience as a specialist in the electronic design of safety critical control systems, including systems architecture, system redundancy-management and top-level safety analysis.

Larry played a key role in most of the recent commercial Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft systems (B737, ARJ21, ERJ170/190, 787 etc.), and was heavily involved with FAA certification issues and rule-making organizations, including: FAR/JAR 25.1309, the top-level rule-making group for commercial aircraft systems; and DO-254, which defines hardware certification requirements. Larry is a two-time recipient of the Honeywell “Technical Achievement Award” for his contributions to the FBW aircraft systems as well as the “H.W.Sweatt Scientist/Engineer Award”, Honeywell’s highest technical honor. He is also a recipient of the Honeywell Chairman’s Award for his contributions to business development.

For the past several years, Larry has been involved in design solutions for Battery Management Systems (BMS), including support of GM’s Chevy-Volt program. His efforts have been critical to the successful market entry of the Li-Ion batteries on which the PHEV and EV vehicle technologies depend. Larry received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He has numerous technical publications and holds 15 patents related to his work on safety critical control systems.
