Josiah Verkaik
Mechanical Engineer
Josiah Verkaik, Senior Mechanical Engineer for LaunchPoint, joined the team in 2005. Over the past four years, Josiah has substantially contributed to approximately 10 major projects including the PediaFlow VAD, Quintessential Ventricular Cannula, design of the Space Launch Vehicle, and concept development of the Intraocular Pressure Sensor. As a LaunchPoint consultant, he has served numerous clients in managing productive customer relationships for various developments including medical diagnostic systems and minimally-invasive implantable devices, as well as recreational, amusement, and educational devices. With nearly a decade of industry experience, he is an accomplished Mechanical Design Engineer with wide-ranging design practice and technical command.
Josiah earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2001 from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California in a “learn by doing” educational environment. His senior project involved the design and optimization of a pressure-sensing sheath system for conducting arthroscopic surgery on behalf of Conmed Endoscopy (Conmed) where Josiah had interned for two years. Josiah subsequently served as a Design Engineer on the staff and developed several product families such as the legacy QuickLatch® arthroscopy system. Josiah’s five-year history with Conmed provided him valuable experience in the development of innovative medical devices from concept through commercialization. His prior experience has included developing endoscopes, various surgical instrumentation, and new endoscopic visualization technologies. Josiah also served as a consultant in the design of industrial machines, bulk-solids processing equipment and optical devices. Josiah has a knack for innovation, examining a problem at a fundamental level and discovering creative solutions.
